May: Masturbation Month

May: Masturbation Month

Despite being the most common sexual practice, masturbation continues to be a taboo topic in our society. Although scientifically debunked, this practice is still surrounded by myths. Among the most absurd is the idea that masturbation causes blindness, hair growth on the palms of the hands, and acne. Unfortunately, these misconceptions about masturbation continue to impact how it is perceived and practiced. Centered on the perception of reproduction as the sole purpose of human sexuality and the repression of the body, there are still people today who consider self-pleasure as unnatural and a form of self-abuse.

So, how did an entire month come to be dedicated to masturbation?

In 1994, Dr. Jocelyn Elders, then Surgeon General of the United States, was invited to speak at an AIDS conference at the United Nations. One of the questions asked was about masturbation as a method of HIV prevention. To which Dr. Elders replied: “It is a natural part of human sexuality, and I think it should be taught”. Despite being true, the controversial nature of her response led to her dismissal as Surgeon General. The following year, the store Good Vibrations in San Francisco declared May as Masturbation Month in solidarity with Dr. Elders and with the added purpose of promoting positive approaches to sexuality. Indeed, masturbation has numerous health benefits. Among these:
  • Reduces stress and tension
  • Aids in sleeping
  • Relieves menstrual pains
  • Burns calories
  • In a couple, it can promote intimacy and understanding each other's preferences
This May, we celebrate not only the virtues of masturbation, but above all Dr. Joyce Elders and light-years ahead of her "yours truly (Nacho G.)", who has never been afraid to fight for a positive and healthy sexuality. Source: https://sexteam.org/

O tal vez no, y aún no tendríamos PeC. Nacho no habló, ACTUÓ. Y gracias a él tenemos PeC. Nacho, muchísimas gracias por haber construido algo tan genial, tan maravilloso y tan fabuloso.
